What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking an Engineering Program/Project Lead for a great new opportunity to contribute to the development of a Center Program Office for the Microsystems Engineering, Science and Applications (MESA) organization. In this role, you will lead the integration of multiple projects, programs, and processes to drive strategy and create an enduring financial and operational assurance model. You will apply expertise and experience in one or more engineering or related disciplines to make judgments crucial to the delivery of the product or system through such activities as developing acceptance criteria for the subsystems and system, evaluating competing characteristics between system elements to determine the most effective integrated system solution, and deliverables that support near and long-term mission objectives.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Lead and integrate others to meet program deliverables and solve programmatic challenges, while partnering with others across all disciplines (SE PMs, PMs, PCs, Engineering, etc.).

  • Work in a peer-level relationship with the project technical leads and management to oversee product lifecycle management activities, such as development of project plans, work breakdown structures, and milestones, and implementation of risk and opportunity management, scope management, configuration management, requirements management, and other technical processes.

  • Negotiate deliverables with external customers and partners, builds and leads teams, and organizes resources to implement scope.

  • Use engineering or technical judgment built upon a strong engineering, technical, and/or relevant product domain background to lead technical teams, identify potential project risks, develop risk mitigation strategies and corrective actions, and recommend risk acceptance or avoidance for all aspects of the project.

  • Understand what technical environmental, physical, or functional performance requirements drive risk and can affect cost and schedule.

  • Develop and deliver center-level standard processes for progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.

  • Apply standard principles and advanced Project Management techniques and tools in developing project plans and detailed work breakdown structures, negotiating work packages, resource loaded schedules, and assigning various aspects of work to complete project deliverables. Ability to calculate, analyze variances, and make project decisions utilizing Earned Value Management System techniques and tools.

  • Provide leadership and tactical planning for execution of projects and applies engineering or other technical knowledge to achieve project objectives and deliverables.

The selected applicant can be a remote worker located in any U.S. State or District of Columbia. Regular or periodic travel to your assigned work location may be required.

Salary Range:

$104,100 - $207,100

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM or other relevant field plus five (5) or more years of relevant experience or;

  • combination of education and experience

  • Experience making decisions requiring scientific, engineering and programmatic judgement

  • Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Experience leading leaders, creating standard processes, leading change initiatives, making risk-based decisions

  • Green Belt Certification

  • Five (5) or more years of Project Management experience

  • Ability to effectively communicate across science and engineering disciplines

  • Track record of building and maintaining collaborative customer relationships

  • Expertise in the relevant product domain(s) sufficient to guide the program decisions

About Our Team:

Department 5292 is responsible for the integration of strategic activities focused on sustaining the MESA capability into the future. Specifically, we sustain MESA by partnering with functional experts across the Laboratory to build an integrated operational system enabling continual delivery to our national security mission. We rely on SMEs and their processes where they exist and where they don’t exist, we build them. These processes enable MESA to have an accurate understanding of what work MESA should be doing, understand if MESA is accomplishing its goals and objectives, and what MESA can do to continuously improve.

Security Clearance:

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
