GovCIO Technical Writer (Remote) in Boston, Massachusetts

Overview

GovCIO is currently hiring for a Technical Writer to support the Department of Homeland Security. This position will be fully remote.

Responsibilities

GCIO is seeking a candidate for the position of Technical Writer / Communication Specialist to support a contract for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The Technical Writer will be responsible for development of multiple project-level communications artifacts, including stakeholder reports, SOPs, emails, and meeting minutes. The candidate will also assist in the development of strategies to obtain, organize, and disseminate information to project team members and key stakeholders through clear and effective communication channels.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to deliver high quality documentation paying attention to detail

  • Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures and translate them into process documentation

  • Support internal communications, like USCIS digital digest

  • Excellent written skills in English

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Basic familiarity with the SDLC and software development

  • Research, write, edit and proofread complex technical data

  • Create, maintain and update manuals, procedures, specifications and other documents

  • Evaluate and recommend revisions to standards and guideline's

  • Provide writing, editing and design support to other team members Ability to review technical documentation for quality assurance

  • Ability to make documentation 508-compliant

  • Conduct communications gap analysis to determine strengths of current approaches and identify opportunities for improvement

  • Develop and maintain project-level communications processes, tools, and resources, leveraging best practices for communications across the portfolio

  • Assist in the enhancement of current communications strategies

  • Ensure all communications are in support of portfolio and project objectives and are consistent across delivery channels and stakeholders

  • Work in partnership with the customer communications teams to ensure branding and style guidelines are maintained

  • Leverage communications methods to identify trends throughout the communications lifecycle

  • Possess strong analytical skills required to proactively research information and begin compiling initial responses to ad-hoc data calls

  • Thorough ability to navigate MS PowerPoint, including shortcuts and animations

  • Understanding of information design and creative storytelling within a presentation format

  • Proactive approach to problem-solving and collaboration with a team

  • Ability to find, create, and build graphics, such as icons (manipulate and retouch, as needed)

  • Experience in integrating multimedia elements using various software

  • Exceptional attention to detail and an eye for visual consistency and formatting, with emphasis on accuracy, speed, and quality

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

  • Education Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree

  • Years of Experienced Required: 2+ US Citizenship Ability to attain DHS Suitability (active suitability is a plus)

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Good decision-making and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work

  • Understanding of Agile and DevOps framework (desired)

Posted Pay Range

The posted pay range, if referenced, reflects the range expected for this position at the commencement of employment, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and internal equity. The total compensation package for this position may also include other compensation elements, to be discussed during the hiring process. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the GovCIO reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, GovCIO or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Posted Salary Range

USD $70,000.00 - USD $80,000.00 /Yr.
