Job Purpose :
A Virtualization Engineer is a versatile team-player involved in an enterprise implementation of multiple information technology systems. The core group specific deliverables are operations of virtualization environment (hardware and hypervisor). Responsibility for on-call /escalated support for operations of virtualized environments, included but not limited to: Server side virtualization, host based post installation scripting and troubleshooting in Ansible and PowerShell. Responsibility for performance and capacity analysis for physical assets that carry virtualized infrastructure.
Essential Functions :
CBTS Virtualization, Virtual Datacenter, and infrastructure orchestration - 40%
The subject should be comfortable with and will have responsibility or participation in installation, and provisioning, hypervisor infrastructure to guest side virtualization; virtualization technologies may involve hypervisor-based technologies such as VMware.
Orchestration technologies include OpenStack and vCloud Director
Virtualization, storage management and migration - 10%
The subject should be comfortable with migration of storage for guest side virtualized environments, as well as infrastructure; subject will be responsible for participating in planning and execution of storage pool optimization, live migrations with little impact to availability, and work during maintenance windows; clear understanding of NFS, FCP, ISCSI, shared SCSI locking essential; clear understanding of file systems such as XFS, EXT3, EXT4, HPFS, NTFS
Virtualization, Virtual Data Center System Integration - 30%
The subject should be experienced with virtualization system integration and trouble-shooting, including root cause analysis documentation
Other and documentation - 10%
Procedural documentation, customer documentation, process and procedural review
On-Call support - 10%
On-Call support for the above
Education :
Four years of College resulting in a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
Certifications, Accreditations, Licenses :
VMware VCP certification or equivalent required
VMware VCAP certification preferred
ITIL V3 foundations certification preferred Experience/Background
Relevant Work Experience:
3 to 5 years in related field
Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
PowerShell scripting, Linux engineer, Datacenter virtualization
Basic project management Special Knowledge/Skills
Vmware vSphere operations and installation procedures
Ansible
Shell scripting and automation of basic procedures
Demonstrated skills in preventive maintenance, performance tuning, assist with capacity planning, all within best practice standards
Demonstrated skills in project management
Strong advocate of defining/conforming to standards for support processes and procedures
Demonstrated skills in oral, written and interpersonal communication
Strong team/customer focus
Strong problem diagnostics skills
Ability to work and act independently and as part of a team
High level of energy and enthusiasm with the ability to thrive in a rapidly changing environment
Ability to manage multiple simultaneous tasks, client relationships and expectations
Must be 18 years of age or older
Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States
Resources are required to be a US citizen for support of a US export controlled (EC) environment
Must be willing to submit to a drug test and pass successfully
Supervisory Responsibility :
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities .
Work Environment :
Daytime tour of duty; occasional scheduled night and weekend work
Subject to overtime and callout
Work may be performed in an enclosed area lacking windows
May require late hours and weekends to complete assignments and projects
Indoor work - exposed to indoor conditions, dust, noise, dirt, heat, various lighting conditions, etc.
Work may be performed a various locations under varying conditions
Requires standing, sitting, lifting/carrying supplies and training materials up to 40 lbs. and reading paper documentation and electronic communications
