Please note that this is a Virtual RN position, and the employee will physically work on-site at the central HUB located outside the medical center in Des Moines, Iowa. This is not a remote work from home position.

Job Summary:

The ideal nurse will have at least 8 years' experience of which 2 years are in the emergency department and possess a high degree of comfort working with technology. As a virtual nurse in the ED, you will partner with the bedside ED RN and play an active role in the care and resuscitation of critically ill patients including, but not limited to, facilitation of ACLS, routine rounding and patient assessment, monitoring critical labs, and provider communication. In addition, the ED virtual nurse will collaborate continuously with the ED charge nurse to assist in priority tasks that support the efficiency of throughput in the emergency department. The virtual nurse plays an important role in supporting movement within the department based on volume and acuity. The virtual ED RN is a vital member of the nursing care team and requires a high degree of professional competence and autonomy which will be demonstrated in performing the roles of 1) clinician, 2) educator, 3) consultant/collaborator, and 4) mentor.

The ED Virtual RN Essential Functions:

· Work closely with the ED clinical staff and caregivers as one team.

· High degree of professional competence and autonomy will be demonstrated in performing the roles of 1) clinician, 2) educator, 3) consultant/collaborator, 4) mentor

· Comfortable with multiple modalities of technology and/or digital platforms supporting emergency management of care.

· Responsible for critical thinking, collaboration, communication, facilitation and documentation of optimal provision of care through a computerized and/or digital platform supporting emergency management of care.

· Virtually monitors for pending clinical deterioration using virtual assessment skills, medical record review, and clinical expertise, coordinating with patient facing team members to identify immediate needs and mitigate emergent clinical conditions.

· Mentors nurses new to their role for the purpose of ensuring orientation, competence, and emotional support.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited Nursing Program preferred

· Active Registered Nurse licensure issued by the Iowa Board of Nursing or a nursing license with eNLC multi-state practice privileges

· Minimum of 8-year nursing experience with 2 years in an Emergency Department

  • Basic Life Support

  • ACLS
