Primary Responsibilities:

  • Stay curious and informed about sources of medical cost trend within the US health care industry

  • Develop a deep understanding of people, process, and technology improvements that can favorably impact medical cost trend and health care affordability

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for data-driven improvements in healthcare delivery and operations

  • Design and implement scalable high performant SQL-based analytics using large healthcare datasets to measure health care utilization and medical cost trends

  • Master storytelling using Tableau, Excel, and PowerPoint to deliver actionable insights to a diverse set of stakeholders – clinicians, administrators, financial analysts.

  • Assist in data strategy by performing data validations and providing workarounds as needed to improve data quality and reliability

  • Perform financial modeling in excel to quantify impacts of various initiatives aimed at improving affordability

  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to best practices in healthcare data analytics

Positions in this function research and investigate key business problems through quantitative analyses of utilization and healthcare costs data. Provides management with statistical findings and conclusions. Identifies potential areas for medical cost improvements and alternative pricing strategies. Provides data in support of actuarial, financial and utilization analyses.

Required Qualifications:

  • Seasoned professional with 5+ years of experience in the field of healthcare data analytics or a related area

  • 5+ years of experience with a proven track record of developing SQL-based analytics solutions that are scalable and handle high complexity

  • 2+ years of experience delivering analytical insights using data visualization tools such as Tableau

  • Solid blend of data analytics (coding skills), healthcare domain knowledge, and presentation skills

  • Expert-level proficiency in using Microsoft Excel for financial modeling tasks, including cost-benefit analysis

  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing challenges

  • Superior communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

  • Familiarity with healthcare data structures, terminologies, and regulatory requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field

  • Expertise in Python

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
