Job Description Summary

Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
Architect, implement, and support the full technology stacks for large engineering clusters
Support the Engineering Software computation environment including software execution, cluster management, storage, parallel processing
Support the design implementation and maintenance of engineering clusters and virtualization environments
Implement the infrastructure to support a growing computational environment including Windows servers and networking architecture
Available to quickly respond and resolve critical service outages severely impacting consumers of Engineering Software
Establish performance baseline, capacity thresholds, correlate events, and define monitoring/alerting criteria
Develop automated solutions to address potential problems before they result in a service interruption
Provide impact assessment and mitigation plan for changes going into the production environment
Investigate root cause of severe and systemic outages, identify corrective actions and apply across the enterprise
Develop availability measures that align with consumer experience to accurately assess the usability of crucial services
Identify thresholds for all critical links in the data path to quickly isolate where imbalances may result in potential outages
Analyze failure points in services to model risk level and resolution steps if failure occurs.
Assist in driving architecture enhancements into system to mitigate potential failure points
Programmatically monitor for and remediate configuration drift of critical devices
Develop response plans to potential failure points and evaluate effectiveness during planned tests
Perform comprehensive operational health checks of the entire services to identify areas of concern and track activities to drive improvements at all levels of the architecture
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) or 8 years of relevant work experience
Minimum of 7 years of experience with Cluster Architecture/Management, Software Engineering, Infrastructure Support, System Admin, or Software Quality Assurance

Desired Characteristics
Master's Degree in Computer Science or “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math)
Experience with VMware or Hyper-V
Experience implementing high speed reliable networks.
Demonstrated experience scripting or developing infrastructure related tooling in PowerShell, .NET, Python, Go, etc.
Invested and proactive about security, availability, and reliability.
Experience using infrastructure management tools such as Terraform.
Experience using/managing HashiCorp products such as Vault, Consul, and Nomad.
Strong understanding of the unique challenges and technologies in parallel / high performance computing (HPC), including security, usage scenarios, and infrastructure basics.
Excellent knowledge of common server operating systems (Windows Server, RedHat Linux.)
Excellent understanding of Metrics/Monitoring tools and methodologies such as Open Telemetry, Prometheus, and Loki
Experience with configuring, customizing, and/or extending modern monitoring tools (Prometheus exporters, Loki Log collectors, Open Telemetry collectors, Grafana, etc.)
Strong understanding of network-based storage (primarily Windows/SMB), including security, usage scenarios, and infrastructure basics.
Strong understanding of network management and related tooling and technologies.
Excellent knowledge of TCP/IP networking, and inter-networking technologies (routing/switching, proxy, firewall, etc.)
Enthusiastic to find ways to make customers successful.
Ability to work well within small team focused on rapid delivery of results
Passionate about continuously learning and able to quickly adapt and pivot to win in dynamic environment.
Experience using development tools and version control systems such as GitLab and Git.
Experience using Windows debugging tools.
The salary range for this position is 102-136k. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for a performance bonus.
