Job Description Summary

This position services as an expert technical and industry resource to management, clients and development staff in new uses of information technology in all phases of major system and subsystem development. Provides consultation on internal and industry IT technical and business domain process capabilities including leadership in the identification and recommendation of new IT opportunities and business operations as it relates to application development. Formulates, contributes to, and directs task identification, work effort estimates, and work schedules for research, prototype, and proof-of-concept IT activities. Directs and participates in all aspects of development tasks including data management, application architecture and business architecture. Provides guidance to staff on complex assignments and mentors on new technologies.

Job Description

A technical leader with expertise in the department’s applications and architecture, the Principal Software Engineer (Tech Lead) drives the success of scrum teams via mentoring, hands-on development, defect investigation and work request evaluation. The role provides the opportunity for strategic leadership while retaining a partial focus on direct programming work managed outside of the standard sprint process. The role does not have direct reports. This position is part of Prime Therapeutics' Medical Pharmacy Solutions, a rapidly growing segment of the company and the healthcare industry.

  • Develops guidelines for other software engineers that help them build and implement code that is scalable, stable, and secure.

  • Acts as a hands-on software engineer who writes quality code.

  • Leads problem solving, root cause analysis and trouble shooting.

  • Understands the big picture from a business standpoint within the context of the application.

  • Provides high level estimates of work effort and determines impacted domain areas based on the technical solution.

  • Oversees the branching strategy and production deployments and demonstrates a solid understanding of continuous delivery/continuous integration.

  • Applies Design Thinking techniques on application design.

  • Leads agile software development efforts as a Technical Leader.

  • Coaches scrum teams via pair programming, code reviews and participation in refinement and solutioning discussions.

  • Demonstrates advanced understanding of .NET Core, .Net Framework, VB.NET, C# and SQL, including complex stored procedures.

  • Supports applications leveraging Web Forms, Angular and Blazor.

  • Designs and develops highly scalable applications in AWS cloud using tools like Cloud Formation Templates, EC2, SWF, ELB, Lambda, S3, RDS/Dynamo DB and others.

  • Reviews and takes actions based on application metrics, including but not limited to code quality, business metrics and performance metrics.

  • Ensures application and development compliance to internal security policies and industry requirements.

  • Self-manages priorities and focus to best contribute to the department and organization goals.

Responsibilities

  • 7+ years related experience including a minimum of 3+ years of designing, building and maintaining high quality, secure software in IT.

  • Experience in/with .NET, C# and SQL

  • Critical thinker.

  • Demonstrated problem solving techniques

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Potential pay for this position ranges from $97,760.00 - $166,180.00 based on experience and skills. Pay range may vary by 8% depending on applicant location.
