Schenectady City School District Full-time Virtual Tutor in Schenectady, New York

Tutor Role This position requires strong organizational skills, communication skills. cultural competency, compassion, and community responsiveness to help students/families complete assignments while the student is not able to attend school for a variety of reasons. Tutors communicate with home school teachers, coordinate assignments with student/family, return assignments to the teacher, and log journals about the tutoring experience. Tutors meet with students daily to assist with assignments, clarify questions, administer assessments, and liaise with home school teachers.

Tutor Expectations ? Ability to navigate technology platforms (use of google meet, internet etc.); ? Be on time for scheduled tutoring sessions with proper planning and preparation for the session; ? Work collaboratively with student, parent, and teacher to align tutor goals with school success; ? Help resolve barriers that may be negatively impacting their child’s success in school; ? Tracking, collecting and reporting family needs, concerns and what recommendations they have for the school; ? Tutor will be assigned a student/students and they will establish rapport with student(s) and family while gaining an understanding of student needs/skill gaps so to establish tutoring goals; ? Sessions are 2-3 hours of tutoring instruction

Ability to develop quality relationships with families from all backgrounds living in the Schenectady community; ? Be compassionate, kind and respectful of others and their lived experiences; ? Ability to work collaboratively with others; ? Ability to effectively communicate with school staff and families.

Job Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications ? NYS Teaching Certification required; ? Must be able to work every day, missed sessions can be made up; ? Bilingual and Multilingual speakers a plus; ? District employees cannot perform these responsibilities during their scheduled workday.
